Cyber Bullying

Course Description

Bullying behaviors, whether they take place in person or online, have detrimental effects not only on the victims and survivors of the bullying, but also on the bullies themselves. They create scars that may never fully heal and that will have a formative influence on their future lives. Cyberbullying is a form of bullying that takes place online or through digital technology. It can include a range of behaviors such as cyberstalking, harassment, spreading rumors, and sharing embarrassing photos or videos. The anonymity and reach of the internet can make cyberbullying even more hurtful and difficult to escape than traditional forms of bullying.

Children and adolescents face an alarmingly high danger of being victimized by cyberbullying as a direct result of the meteoric rise in the use of social media platforms and digital activities (such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, Tik Tok amongst others) mainly due to the fact that it typically takes place through text messages, direct messaging, game applications, or online forums. Some forms of cyberbullying may also constitute illegal or criminal behavior depending on the circumstances.

Cyberbullying can have serious consequences for students, including depression, anxiety, and even suicide. It is important for educators to understand the different forms of cyberbullying and how to recognize it, in order to take action and create a safe and inclusive school environment for all students.
